To avoid being tracked while torrenting, your primary defense is masking your public IP address using a reputable, no-log Virtual Private Network (VPN) or a remote Seedbox. Without these, anyone in the torrent swarm—including copyright trolls and your Internet Service Provider (ISP)—can see your exact IP.

Follow these concrete steps to protect your privacy:

1. Use a Premium, No-Log VPN

Free or unverified VPNs are risky because they often keep logs of your activity or sell your data. Always use a trusted, paid VPN that enforces a strict no-logs policy.

How it works: A VPN encrypts all your traffic and routes it through a server, making it impossible for your ISP to monitor what you are doing.
Key Providers: Well-reviewed no-log options include ProtonVPN, Mullvad VPN, and NordVPN.

2. Enable a VPN Kill Switch

If your VPN connection drops unexpectedly, your torrent client will expose your real IP address to the network. A "Kill Switch" prevents this.

How to configure: Open your VPN’s settings menu and enable the Kill Switch / Network Lock.
Pro-tip: You can also bind your torrent client exclusively to your VPN network adapter. In popular clients like qBittorrent, go to Tools > Options > Advanced, find the Network Interface setting, and select your VPN adapter.

4. Use a Seedbox (Alternative)

A seedbox is a dedicated, remote virtual private server (VPS) optimized for torrenting.

How it works: You download and seed files remotely on the seedbox, rather than your own home computer. Once the download completes, you transfer the file to your personal computer via secure direct download (HTTPS). This shields your local IP address completely from the torrent swarm.

5. Be Mindful of Malware and Trackers

While a VPN hides your IP, it does not protect you from downloading malicious files.

Read the Comments/Ratings: Check the community feedback and number of seeders/leechers on the torrent page to ensure the file is legitimate.
Run Antivirus: Always scan downloaded files before opening them.

PLEX hardware transcoding broken on some QNAP

Some QNAP NAS that has Intel CPU(like j3455) embeded with GPU have problem of hardware transcoding on latest Plex version.

If I install latest Plex version like 1.32.x, hardware tranascoding doesn't work. Plex's latest version is now 1.32.x but Qnap's app center has only 1.30.x. If you install Plex through Qnap's App center and use it, hardware transcoding works but Plex says there's updated version. But you can't find it on Qnap's App center. You have to install updated version manually.

If you update it manually to latest version(1.32.x), hardware transcoding no longer works. If hardware transcoding is essential to you, you need to uninstall latest version and reinstall old version through Qnap's App center.

It goes same on Container staion(docker). If you use latest version, hardware transcoding doesn't work. You have to use old image like 1.29.x.

Korea Wins $40Bln Nuke Plant Bid From UAE

A Korean consortium has won a contract worth 40 billion U.S. dollars to build four nuclear power plants in the United Arab Emirates.

Korea and the UAE signed and announced the deal Sunday evening in Abu Dhabi in a ceremony attended by Korean President Lee Myung-bak and UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Under the deal, the consortium led by the Korea Electric Power Corporation will build the reactors by 2020 for the UAE. Twenty billion dollars will go into their construction and another 20 billion dollars will cover services, such as fuel supply, operations and maintenance.

The project is Korea's biggest-ever overseas order and its first export of a nuclear power plant. The deal will help Korean companies advance into the global market for nuclear power plants, which is worth an estimated one trillion dollars.

The consortium includes Hyundai Engineering and Construction, Samsung C&T, Doosan Heavy Industries of Korea and Westinghouse Electric, a U.S.-based unit of Japan’s Toshiba Corporation. It beat out a consortium comprising General Electric of the U.S. and Hitachi of Japan and the French nuclear group Areva.

Lee visited Abu Dhabi for a summit with Khalifa to help the Korean consortium land the massive project.
